Have you ever woken up with a pounding heart, terrified, with a feeling of impending doom? Or maybe you feel an underlying anxiety, an uneasy fear that has no known cause. Your thoughts race and you cannot concentrate on any one thing. At times you barely manage to get through your days, all the while on the outside, you struggle to maintain a cheerful façade.
What do you do when you feel like your chest is going to explode and you just cannot quiet those racing thoughts in your head? Who do you talk to when you end each day so stiff, tense and overwhelmed you have to have a little something to "take the edge off".
Welcome to anxiety. The most prevalent mental health disorder in the world today. If you do not know of an obvious reason for your anxiety I encourage you to look at both your biology and lifestyle.
When I see a person with anxiety, I want to help them to remove the stressors and build the defences of the body. When you apply this from a functional nutritionist viewpoint it means taking away possible food allergens (inflammation) and crowding the diet with nutrient dense whole foods to build the bio chemical defences. If I look at anxiety from a psychotherapist viewpoint I want to teach techniques to neutralize triggers and decrease the intensity of the feelings. Finally looking at anxiety from a neuro nutritionist view point I want to build on supplying the body with targeted nutritional supplementation to bring balance and relief.
If you identify with any or all of the below statements, neuro nutrition could benefit you.
